This paper discusses the restrictions the UK imposed on Croatian workers' free movement rights following the countries accession to the EU on 1 July 2013. Though Croatia has joined the EU, its accession treaty permits other member states to impose transitional restrictions in order to guard against disruption of labor markets. The paper explains that the UK has imposed regulations that require Croatian nationals to obtain permission from UK Visas and Immigration before they can work in the UK, unless they fall into exemption categories. This means, overall, only the highly skilled or those skilled workers with a job offer are eligible to work in the UK.
