This policy brief analyses the effect the amalgamation of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) will have on engagement with diasporas in the country. In particular, they explore what opportunities the new department, the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), will have for a more coherent approach to these groups. They also offer recommendations to DFATD about how to work with diasporas in Canada in order to facilitate and improve engagement with their respective sending regions.
