This research paper encourages NATO to play a more active role with regard to the safety, security and defense in the Arctic region. It explores the reasons behind NATO's marginalization from security affairs in the region since 2009 and then examines how the alliance could increase its engagement if its member states favor such action. Finally, it argues that the situation in the Arctic is changing quickly - a consideration for whatever actions NATO members decide to take.
