This paper discusses Egypt's future in the context of the July 2013 events which saw the removal of President Morsi from power. While opinions are divided over whether these events consititute a military-dictated 'soft coup' or the outburst of a reinvigorated revolutionary momentum, or both, the challenges to a democratic and pluralistic transition process are manifold. According to the author, a process of national reconciliation accompanied by an inclusive revision of the constitution need to be pursued by the new interim government. Furthermore, the new leadership should find ways to engage the excluded Muslim Brotherhood facilitating its inclusion in Egypt's political institutions.
