This working paper looks at protests in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) against the government's failure to restore the granting of citizen ID numbers. The paper looks at the motivations behind the protests and its legacy. The authors contend that the protests were a way for citizens to show their discontent with the deteriorating social and economic situation as well as the prolonged political crisis in the country. The protests, they argue, also potentially signal the beginning of the awakening process of the BiH society and serve as a driving force for its future actions and behaviour.
