This commentary discusses the implications of Russian Prime Minister Medvedev resigning before the end of 2013. The author argues that the reason for such a resignation would be President Vladimir Putin’s desire to to show that, despite being appropriate, his economic plans suffered from a lack of government support. The author concludes that a formal change in prime minister is unlikely to alter the course of Russian foreign policy, however, the nomination of candidates will reveal Vladimir Putin's political and economic preferences.
