This commentary argues that the removal of President Morsi from office in July 2013 could result in improved relations between Egypt and Israel. It says this is because the Egyptian military's tougher stance on radical Islamists will harm Hamas and encourage Palestinian leaders to participate in peace talks. The author also argues that while the integration of Islamic parties into democratic practices has suffered a set-back, Middle Eastern and external actors have an opportunity to use the turmoil in Egypt to create a more resilient regional order.
