This paper examines South Africa’s development assistance to other African countries. It explains the reasons behind the establishment of the South African Development Partnership Agency, and talks about its various stages of development, the challenges it faces, and its future. The author also explores the economic and political drivers and the internal and external forces that affect Pretoria’s international development policy. He concludes by reviewing the effectiveness of South Africa’s development cooperation with African countries.
