This paper presents the proceedings of an international water security conference organized by DIIS in December 2003. The objective of the conference was to take stock of the international understanding of water-related conflicts and to analyze global lessons learned with respect to governance, conflict prevention, and crisis resolution in integrated water resources management. The conference also examined the implications for water management institutions in potential future water related conflicts.
