This study explores domestic Chinese opinion of the country's ethnic policies between 2008 and 2013. It also talks about past debates on the topic and the future of related policy. The author suggests that national opinion is gradually moving toward the position that there needs to be a rethink on existing ethnic policy. However, he only expects the government to make subtle shifts in its policy rather than any major overhauls. As a result, he concludes that ethnic conflicts will increase before China sees any improvement in ethnic relations.
