This bulletin examines the change in the United Kingdom’s energy policy approach from a market-based to an interventionist one. The authors argue that the new interventionist approach will deliver on the government’s policy objectives which include securing supplies, reducing carbon emissions, and ensuring affordable energy prices. They conclude that as a European pioneer in this area, the UK is paving the way for other EU countries to set similar energy objectives.
