This article looks at the concept of Industrial Symbiosis (IS) to minimize, re-utilize and recycle waste at each production stage in industrial operations. It argues that IS supports resource efficiency through cleaner production which reduces the generation of waste and by enhancing waste exchange programs. Analyzing a variety of indicators and measurements of IS, the author concludes that the benefits of IS are twofold: they lower the cost of operations and waste disposal and aid pollution abatement.
