This article looks at existing regulations controlling hazardous waste in Asian countries. It argues that to assess a country’s hazardous waste treatment and disposal capacity, imports and exports of hazardous waste should be taken into account. In the absence of domestic disposal facilities, hazardous waste should be exported to an environmentally sound facility as a prerequisite for export. Providing regional recycling centers also may improve resource efficiency.
