This paper presents the experiences of dealing with Solid Waste Management (SWM) in Cebu City in the Philippines. It discusses the efforts made in waste reduction and the implementation of the Republic Act No.9003. The findings suggest that waste reduction under the act is achievable if local government units ensure supportive institutional mechanisms and strategies, there is capacity development, adequate financing and incentives, as well as continuous monitoring and evaluation of performance.
