This paper discusses the Danish referendum on the European Constitutional Treaty. The author describes the anticipated poll as a perilous democratic exercise and details Denmark's past history on EU votes. The paper analyzes the context of the referendum debate in Denmark and explains how in the volatile political environment surrounding the constitutional treaty, predictions on the outcome of the vote in Denmark are difficult to make.
