This paper examines developments in quality standards in the governance of sustainable development in Nepal. It focuses on the governance of projects for the sustainable management of forests and the reduction of emissions and highlights the success of a voluntary quality-of-governance standard for REDD+ and the forest sector in Nepal. The authors outline the multi-stakeholder, multi-level and multi-tier approach used in Nepal, which in their view led to productive deliberation involving a diverse range of stake-holders and marginalized groups around core governance challenges.
