This paper examines how al-Qaeda in North Africa might exploit security vacuums resulting from instability and political crises in the region. The author discusses the capabilities and objectives of the organization in North Africa and concludes that although the instability in the region creates possibilities for al-Qaeda, internal divisions and an inconsistent narrative will complicate its efforts to reinvent itself and gain popular support.
