This paper, which is based on ethnographic fieldwork done in Cameroon, focuses on the relationship between migration brokers and the state authorities who try to regulate them. In particular, the paper challenges a hard-to-shake stereotype about brokers -- i.e., that they're largely illegal agents who invariably work against the state.
