This commentary argues that the new gas pipeline between Moldova and Romania will improve Moldova’s energy security, bring commercial benefits to both countries, and contribute to the physical integration of the European gas market. Furthermore, it will reduce Russian influence in Moldova and the region more generally. This is why, according to the author, Central European countries should back Moldova in its efforts to complete the project and resume its obligations as an Energy Community member.
