This paper examines China’s current involvement in conflict-affected states. It first identifies the challenges and opportunities that Beijing faces in pursuing economic and development cooperation with such nations. The paper then introduces the concept of 'conflict sensitivity', which Beijing and other actors might want to use as a tool to gauge the potential risks and long-term stability that all conflict-affected areas have.
