This paper discusses the results of a collaborative biodiversity conservation campaign in Nicaragua. The authors study the impact of biodiversity conservation on local poverty levels and governing institutions and explain the frequent patterns of local resistance to national or international land conservation efforts. The paper presents the conclusions of the campaign in Nicaragua and examines the results in a global context.
