This paper examines the ubiquity of big data and the risks and opportunities it poses to our lives. The author explains that mixture of technology and socioeconomic factors has fueled an exponential growth in the volume, variety, velocity, and availability of digital data, creating an emerging and vibrant data-driven economy. He further argues that this economy needs an appropriate policy framework to enable its full socio-economic potential while protecting privacy, individual rights, and data security.
