This policy brief argues that, although the EU and India acknowledge each other as important global actors, in practice they do not see each other as real strategic partners. This is best seen through the drawn-out free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations which soak up most of their attention and risk making the entire relationship dependent to their success or failure. The author emphasizes the need for a new and forward-looking EU-India partnership, one that can facilitate development, cooperation and sustainable growth in India, and open business opportunities for the EU.
