The recent discovery of significant gas and coal reserves has made Mozambique one of the 10 fastest-growing economies in the world. Yet the majority of Mozambicans remain highly dependent on natural ecosystems to support their livelihoods. This report examines the opportunities and challenges confronting the small-scale fisheries sector in Mozambique in the face of the country's rapidly transforming economy. The author concludes with five key recommendations that could support Mozambique’s efforts to establish an effective governance framework for its small-scale fisheries sector.
