Several recent verdicts by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) have rekindled controversies in the region about its past wars, the issue of justice, and the conditions needed for further reconciliation. In response to this problem, this brief provides policy recommendations on how best to support regional stability in the Balkans. It further discusses the merits and weaknesses of the ICTY, the importance of reconciliation, and ongoing political and security developments in the region.
