This paper examines the connection between migration and security in the Eastern Mediterranean. More specifically, it looks at the effect EU migration policy has had on migrant security and migration flows in he region from the mid-2000s to the Arab Spring and its aftermath. The paper argues that the increased focus on security in the EU has led to the loss of human life at sea and an increase in pressure on migrants in transit countries.
