This analysis focuses on the West's policy towards Syria after the agreement between Russia and the US to secure Syria's chemical weapons arsenal. The authors argue that, as the conflict will not end in the foreseeable future, the West will have to build on this deal and forge new agreements providing for humanitarian access and protection. They conclude by advising the West to focus on the consequences of the conflict and to operate within the realm of the possible, rather than the preferable.
