This commentary looks at how wealthy individuals in Belarus fit into the egalitarian model of society promoted by the government. According to the author, the wealthy in Belarus enjoy a number of privileges that allow them to conduct business and increase their assets in return for political loyalty. The president, however, has actively prevented them from becoming powerful enough to influence the political scene.
