This paper looks at the political campaign of the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) prior to Germany's parliamentary elections in September 2013. The author argues that even though the CDU/CSU has been running a passive campaign and the Chancellor herself has been avoiding confrontation, everything indicates that they will win the election. Furthermore, their main competitor, the Social Democrats, have been unable to play to their strengths and present themselves as a serious alternative to the CDU/CSU.
