This paper discusses the missile defense program of the US government. The author describes the political and security-related motivations behind the development of the national missile defense system and considers the international consequences of this decision. Of these motivations, the paper identifies potential terrorist attacks using weapons of mass destruction, and the US government's desire to maintain global strategic superiority, as the main two.
