This brief examines Algeria's role in Tunisia's transition process and summarizes historical aspects of the relationship between the two countries. The author argues that Algeria, worried about the deteriorating security situation in Libya, has played a crucial role in bringing the different parties in Tunisia to the negotiating table. He concludes that it would be to the benefit of all parties in the region if the leading EU countries would engage in a higher level of political dialogue with Algeria.
