This paper examines the composition of the middle class (MC) in Saudi Arabia. The author argues that a new middle class (NMC) has emerged under state patronage leading to further polarization of wealth within the MC. She concludes that the MC will likely lose its majority status as more Saudis join its marginal sections. Additionally, the bottom classes will expand as poverty and unemployment rates increase.
