This commentary looks at the security relationship between the United States and the Philippines. In particular, it discusses how the relationship has evolved since 1945, and it considers how the pending Increased Rotational Presence (IRP) Agreement, which will increase the presence of US forces on Philippine soil, will further strengthen the ties between Manila and Washington. Finally, the commentary looks at the implications of the agreement for China, the wider region and for the US itself.
