This commentary examines NATO’s relationship with Japan, as well as Asia in general. The author contends that, although it is unlikely that NATO will play a direct military role in the Asia-Pacific region, NATO and Japan are expected to continue building up a political partnership as a starting point for further initiatives which embed other regional actors.
