This paper analyses the association between wages and workers' occupational use of foreign languages in Germany. The author finds that workers with proficient English can gain ten percent in their wages if they choose occupations in which their language skills are put to use. He also says that migrants can expect to gain twice as much of an increase in their hourly wage for their occupational use of English. He found no systematic return for the occupational use of other foreign languages, or intermediate or lower levels of English.
