In this interview, Columbia University's Timothy Mitchell talks about his life and work, including his most recent book "Carbon Democracy." As part of his discussion, he focuses on the birth of 'the economy' as a powerful political concept and phenomenon, on how we should view the state as an effect rather than an actor, and on the importance of taking the technicalities oil production seriously if we truly want to understand its politics.
