This policy brief reviews the successes of the new African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), and evaluates the impact it has had on the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) and the African Union (AU). The author argues that the creation of the APSA is an important step towards regional peace and stability and has aided the AU in gaining international recognition and power to help the development of the continent. She warns, however, that although there has been significant progress and economic growth throughout the continent, African leaders and international organizations should not forget the social, economic and political problems that remain.
