This paper looks at the role of Central and Southeastern European gas markets in Europe’s gas supply diversification strategy. It first provides a brief description of the EU’s strategic interest in integrating Central and Eastern European gas markets into its supply strategy and then outlines some of the possibilities for increasing gas supply to the continent by exploring unconventional resources. Finally, the author notes that the US experience in the area of unconvential gas extraction may help Europe to develop a healthier energy import balance.
