This paper discusses whether developments such as Turkey’s slowdown in the implementation of EU standards and the growing authoritarianism of its government signify an abandonment of its EU integration plans. The author argues that that despite visible shifts in Turkey’s domestic and foreign policy, as well as geopolitical changes across the region, the EU is likely to retain its position as Ankara’s key partner. He also states that Turkey is likely to seek greater integration with the EU.
