This brief examines Japan's approach to atoning for its violent history and why it is always unfavorably compared to Germany's repentance efforts for its Nazi past. The author comments on why this situation has come about and provides suggestions on what Japan could do to help alleviate the grievances which still plague its foreign relations in the present day.
