This paper uses relevant legal standards and best practices developed by UNHCR to assess the EU's asylum policy. Focusing on the problems faced by climate refugees, the authors identify inconsistencies in EU's asylum policy where access to protection is concerned. They also provide some recommendations for the European Parliament regarding readmission agreements, Frontex engagement rules in maritime operations, Regional Protection Programs, and resettlement.
