This brief sketches the outline of a common European position on remotely piloted aircraft and targeted killing. The author argues that the EU should take a stronger stand on the issue of drone strikes and should make an effort to work with the US to set a new standard for when drone attacks are permissible. According to him, the EU’s position should be based on the idea that lethal force outside conventional military theaters should only be used when there is a serious, imminent threat to innocent life.
