This paper examines Finland's national debate over the EU, including the euro crisis and the future direction of Europe. The author suggests that a key element to Finnish debate about the EU is that Finland does not have a viable alternative to its participation in the euro. He suggests this probably means that the increase in Eurosceptic sentiment which followed the euro crisis will decrease once the crisis eases. However, he also argues that if the euro crisis leads to division within the members of the EU, this could create more fertile political ground for Eurosceptic voices.
