This paper looks at the possible impact the end of transitional restrictions on Bulgarian and Romanian worker’s free movement rights by the end of 2013 will have on migration to the UK. The authors briefly outline the EU freedom of movement law and the concept of transitional restriction and how it has impacted Bulgarian and Romanian migration to the UK up to 2013. They then discuss some of the controversy surrounding the end of transitional restrictions and the forecasts of immigration from Bulgaria and Romania and conclude with some recommendations for the UK government.
