This paper examines China's strategic interest and participation in the Arctic. The author argues that China looks north for basically three reasons: 1) it is influenced by environmental changes in the Arctic; 2) it is drawn by the business opportunities arising from the opening of the Arctic passages and better access to the region's resources; and 3) it is also committed to maintaining good governance in the Arctic.
