This brief examines the important role regional trade talks play in the success or failure of larger negotiations, such as the World Trade Organization's (WTO) Doha round. First the authors look at why the WTO has become a victim of its own success and why the Doha round has stalled. They then go on to look at the Transpacific Partnership (TPP) and Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) regional negotiations and how their success or failure could affect global trade.
