This brief examines the growing insecurity in Myanmar, which it attributes to the public's rising disappointment with inadequate political and economic reforms. Unfortunately, the resulting interethnic and interreligious unrest in the country threatens to 1) halt the reform process altogether, 2) diminish much needed foreign investment, and 3) stoke broader regional tensions. After exploring these problems, the brief concludes by recommending ways to stop the cycle of violence and popular disillusionment that now grips Myanmar.
