The United States, claims the author of this report, is at a pivotal moment that will determine its manufacturing competitiveness for decades to come. Once discounted by many economists and policymakers as passé, manufacturing—and especially advanced manufacturing—presents an opportunity to foster economic growth and create skilled jobs for those countries that can seize it. Yet, it is far from clear that the US is prepared to take full advantage of this opportunity. To address this issue, the author advocates a nation-wide campaign and specifies what should be done in order to improve the country's manufacturing workforce.
