This paper examines France's idea of India, with a particular focus on why France perceives India as a crucial partner and how its perceptions inform their bilateral relations. The author believes that while French interest towards India is grounded in the perception of common features, and the possibility to realize cooperation and mutual benefits in specific areas, India does not put as high a priority on its bilateral relationship with France.
