This brief talks about migrants who return to their countries of origin involuntarily due to violent conflict, natural disasters or deportation. The authors argue that while the circumstances of return due to violent conflict or natural disasters differ from those of deportation, both groups of returnees may encounter problems with reintegration. Indeed, they suggest that involuntary return may cause impoverishment, marginalization, social unrest, and even a high-risk of re-migration.
